With the world evolving, people are becoming more and more busy, virtual communication allows friends or co-workers in another country or continent to talk instantaneously.[1] Video conferencing is a growing trend among many businesses. They use video conferencing to get all of the attendees in one place without actually being there in person. A study shows that in 2004 there were 4.8 million people using video conferencing and that by the year 2010 they are expecting the number of people using video conferencing to 197 million.[2] Virtual communication allows us to know and understand how to access and share information through the internet, or electronically, that opens up doors to limitless learning.[3] Not only does it save time, but it also saves money on travel expenses.

For over 40 years, the Internet has introduced new ways of keeping contact between millions of people. Education
There are four major things that students can benefit from having virtual communication in the classroom.
1. VolP
2. Desktop Sharing
3. Instant Messaging
4. Video Conferencing
1) VolP
VolP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol . VoIP makes learning fun and easier. It allows students as well as teachers to experience with technology in the classroom. You can communicate with others with video chat as well as email and instant messaging. VoIP has everything: call, chat, conferencing, and a webcam. Students can communicate with other students from different countries. Skypecasting is a device that enables an entire class to converse instantaneously. Teachers can choose a topic and record the conversation.
2) Desktop Sharing Desktop sharing allows teachers as well as students to share their desktops, aiding in understanding of the topic. The teacher can show the student firsthand how to find something or perform a task. Unyte allows us to share our documents and projects of any size with just about anyone. It also lets us send files and documents if someone is absent or unable to make it to school.
3) Instant Messaging Instant messaging can be used as an alternative method of communication if students and teachers do not have the right components for voice or video chatting. The teacher can communicate instantly with multiple students. Students can communicate with their teacher(s) when they are not in school when help is needed.
Online tutors may want to use instant messaging to chat with students, such as they do on Tutor.com. IM is faster than emails and more effective. Not to mention, it's also free and once again easy!
4) Video Conferencing
Teachers and students can have a simultaneous discussion with the help of conferencing. Video conferencing creates an environment similar to a classroom. Teacher’s lectures while the students are listening. Students who are unable to go to school have the advantage of having the videoconference. They can take part in there virtual classes such as video conferencing, and being home schooled. It also helps children who are in isolated areas. Australia, for example has tons of isolated areas.
Video conferencing is just an absolutely great way to bring students of social and cultural differences together and learn about their backgrounds. It is a way for everyone to benefit other cultures .
Differences between a physical and virtual classroom
Physical
Virtual
Requires a physical location.
Does not require a physical location.
Students must arrive at the location at a fixed time.
Students have the flexibility of accessing the class anywhere, anytime.
There is face-to-face interaction between students and teachers.
There is no face-to-face interaction between students and teachers.
Communication or exchange of information between more than two people at the same time.
Communications or exchange of information between people happens at different times; instructions are delivered at a different time to when the work is done.
In virtual classrooms, this allows discussions between fellow classroom members and teachers.
In virtual classrooms, this allows students to work at their own pace and in their own time.
Encourages group discussions
The entire discussion is recorded and can be repeated continuously.
Virtual classrooms remove the boundaries of location, time and space. It provides a flexible environment in which students can study at their own pace, in their own time. Schools, universities and corporate organizations benefit from virtual classrooms because it provides an excellent way for experts to teach a geographically dispersed group of students without hassle. http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guide/14083/education/virtual_classrooms.htm
Skype is a great way to bring professors and experts into a classroom to discuss a topic.
Government, Politics and Employment
Big enterprises start to use Second Life Grid (virtual communication world) because they saw that it provided verifiable real-world benefits. It increases productivity, effective collaboration, improved communication, enhances engagement with customers, and reduces business cost. Second Life allows for there to be a two way communication amongst customers. This platform encourages further engagement with their customers. Since there is no real need to leave the office in order to hold such meeting, it saves them air fare travel and time.[4] The New Jersey Business Force uses Virtual Communications as a statewide exercise to test the available information and communication technologies to use for Hurricane Response. The participants of the exercise were from all over the state of New Jersey, it included hospitals, colleges and the several counties.[5] First Virtual Communications Inc. is a premiere provider of next generation web conferencing and collaboration solution.
Arts, Entertainment and Leisure
Virtual communication is not just for businesses. It is also for personal and home use. People can talk to family and friends with just a click of a button. The Internet has changed our lives tremendously. With computers and Internet, we can be connected to the world 24/7. Using AIM is better because when you talk on the telephone there are sometimes awkward silences. On AIM, you don’t have to answer back immediately. You can wait a while until you think of something good to say. Skype is another cool program that has become very popular with in the last year. It is basically like AIM but has a lot more features. It has the Instant Message tool like AIM, but it also has video, so you can see the person you are talking to. It also has call feature where you can call, without video, the username of the person you want to talk to. You can also call landline phones for a small fee. It is very useful. Virtual communication is a cool and growing topic.

Virtual communications effects on science. There are multiple websites that use virtual communication as an “online space for sharing experiences of, and building bridges between, the people and the organizations engaged in or supporting communications as a fundamental strategy for economic and social development and change.” Or, for those of you like me who don’t like all the big words, it is a place for people to talk about there experiences and information. People can talk to each other and discuss problems they could be having with anything from a 4th grade science experiment to brain surgery. They can get answers to questions without going to a library and looking through a mountain of books just by sending an email or posting a question on one of the many, easy to use, websites. http://www.comminit.com/en/about-global.html
Virtual communication has affected health in many ways. Generally, it allows those with the same interests to “share experiences, ask questions” and “provide emotional support and self help”. For example, there are certain online websites such as www.mdjunction.com and www.healthyplace.com where people can sign up and talk to others with similar health problems such as theirs. These sites can be really helpful to people who are suffering with some kind of health-related ailment but cannot find anyone to empathize with or are uncomfortable discussing it with someone face to face. Another example is the group of people who want to become healthy by losing weight or exercising. There are so many different online diet and exercise programs to help people become healthy and these programs make it easy for just about anyone to come up with a plan to achieve their health goals. http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/328/7449/116
Health care has also advanced on the internet to help civilians obtain specific information. "Hospitals are beginning to realize the efficiency and cost benefits of investing in the new world of virtual communications -and increasingly looking to internet protocol (IP) networks to deliver those benefits." Hospitals alo look to supply people with efficient data and hope to transfer information such as patient records or xrays. Benefits for medical experts through virtual communication include; faster consultation and would not need to leave their everyday practices.
